Guest Blogger: Historical Fiction Book Review

I am so thrilled to feature our first guest blogger with this post!  We are currently studying historical fiction in our reading, and all of our in-class work is focused on stories taking place during the Revolutionary War period of the United States.  Our guess blogger, Abby Wallach, read a historical fiction novel on her own that focuses on World War II Denmark.  Enjoy her review!

Number The Stars
Written by Lois Lowry

It’s 1943, and life in Copenhagen isn’t so well for 10-year-old Annemarie Johansen.  There are Nazi soldiers around every corner.  Soon all of the German troops are trying to “relocate” the Jews of Denmark.  The Johansens take in Annemarie’s best friend, Ellen Rosen, and act as if she is just a part of the family.  Everyone knows that Sweden is a free country, and they try to get Ellen and her her parents there as quickly and as secretly as possible.
In this amazing story told by Lois Lowry, two girls learn about friendship and trust more than ever. I would recommend this book to people who like historical fiction, and a little bit of mystery.  Personally, I would rate this book a perfect ten!
