Today, our class held a lively debate between three famous Loyalists: Jonathan Boucher, Thomas Hutchinson, and Lord Dunmore; and three famous Patriots: Benjamin Franklin, Sam Adams, and Mercy Otis Watson. The debate focused on the issue of declaring independence from Britain. Miss Benoit and I were delighted with the convincing arguments from each side as well as their delivery in English accents! Tonight, students will record the three most powerful arguments from each side in their social studies notebook. I know there were a lot of great choices, so if they have more than three for each, we would welcome that recorded in their notebooks. The participation and engagement of all the students made for an exciting and enriching class this morning!

Debate!
“I’ve always felt that a person’s intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting points of view he can entertain simultaneously on the same topic.” - Abigail Adams
