Are Class Pets Good or Bad for Our Classroom?

Ms. Ketzer, Ms. Hwande, and Ms. Mc.D all have class pets and they think that class pets improve our learning skills. Ms. Ketzer says, “Class pets make kids feel calm and happy to come to school.” Ms. Mc.D says,“It makes learning more exciting for students.” Ms. Hwande says, “It gives kids a chance to observe and question.” I looked into the 4th grade classroom while they were learning math and none of the students seemed distracted by Chubs the guinea pig. I have been in many classrooms with pets and they never seemed to be a distraction to me, my classmates never stared at them during class and none of the pets were mean or tried to bite me. Others disagree, they might cause allergies, they may bite and contain an illness, they could be expensive, and a distraction. What do you think?
