Writing About Writing

As you know, we have been reading and writing poetry since returning from winter break.  Although we have finished our writing unit on poetry, we are continuing to build upon our learning by using poetry in our next writing unit on literary essay.

Often we ask students to write about their reading, but I love it when they choose to write about their writing.  It’s an interesting way for them to examine themselves and their own thinking.  Several students in our class have written poetry about writing.  A couple of the works were shared during our poetry slam, and there is an additional poem from today’s workshop.  Enjoy hearing from the students “in their own words.”

NO IDEA by Chance Williams

No Idea, I have no Idea
Nothing to think
Or feel
No feeling
is  an emotion.
But I have no feeling
for this piece.
Or do I like it
But nevertheless,
It has no idea.

Just write!!

A happy thing,
A sad thing,
A silly thing,
A thing thing!

It could be anything,
it could be anyone,
it could be anywhere!

Old, new,
sad, happy,
fun, boring,
cute, ugly,

it could be anythIng!
just............
WRITE!!!
