Week One Wrap Up

Wow, what a powerful first week we have shared!  Our classroom community is already bustling with the energy of all of the learners in the room!  In a mere three days, we have done A LOT!  Here's just a taste: reviewed and processed the school norms, created classroom norms, took the math pre-test, created images representing our individuality, learned and practiced school and classroom routines, wrote and shared six-word stories, took district writing prompt, visited the library, learned about the strings program, attended an assembly, and attended all special classes.

We have also introduced the students to a new online system for using our classroom library.  Now they can check out books and write reviews of what they read within our classroom.  Since it is web-based, it can be accessed from home, too.  To see how this works, go to our classroom webpage:

The classroom library information is found under "Web Resources" on the menu to the left of the page.  We will continue to add on to the class webpage throughout the course of the school year, and hope to make it a helpful tool for both students and their families.

Happy New Year!

Although there is an absence of crisp, autumn air, our fall semester will begin this Wednesday.  What an exciting school year awaits us!

First of all, welcome to fifth grade!  We are so delighted that you will be in our class this year.  We say "we" because there will be two teachers in our classroom this year.  Ms. Stephens is returning for a second year in fifth grade, her eleventh overall at Captain.  Miss Benoit is the "Truman Intern" at Captain this year in fifth grade. 

We would love to meet you Tuesday morning during the Meet the Teacher event at Captain.  There will be a New Family Orientation from 8-9am, and then from 9-10 am will be an opportunity for all families to meet their children's teachers.  If you cannot make it on Tuesday morning, that's okay!  We will definitely see you Wednesday morning for the first day of school.  We have been busily working in our classroom preparing for your arrival and are looking forward to seeing your smiling faces.
